Farmington and Farmington Hills  October 15 to 22 2026

This week is a useful mix of everyday updates and reasons to get out: Farmington launches a food-scrap recycling pilot, Farmington Hills changes how recreation registration opens, and roadwork continues near Drake and 12 Mile. Add live jazz, local makers, books and a celebration of Farmington's Italian connection, and the calendar is full without feeling crowded.

YOUR WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT

later-week temperatures and rain chances may shift.

Food Scrap Recycling Begins at Sundquist Pavilion

Farmington's food-scrap recycling pilot begins October 18 with designated carts near Sundquist Pavilion, 33113 Grand River Avenue. Residents may drop off scraps seven days a week, including fruit and vegetables, dairy, meat and bones, eggshells, coffee grounds, tea bags, breads and grains. Glass, plastic, metal and liquids are not accepted. The scraps will be composted instead of sent to a landfill.

Farmington Hills Adds Resident First Registration

Farmington Hills says its fall Activities Guide registration process will open first for residents, followed by non-residents. The city announcement lists resident registration at 6 a.m. on November 16 and non-resident registration at 6 a.m. on November 18. The change is intended to make access to recreation, arts and lifelong-learning programs easier to navigate.

Drake and 12 Mile Detour Continues

Farmington Hills reports construction at Drake and 12 Mile is underway with a detour in place and expected completion around October 27. Drivers should allow extra time and review the city construction page before traveling through the area, because lane access and work timing can change.

The Governor Warner Mansion Has Served Farmington Since 1867

Built in 1867, the Governor Warner Mansion became home to Farmington businessman Fred M. Warner, Michigan’s governor from 1905 to 1911. His daughter, Edessa Warner Slocum, was the last family member to live there, and the city accepted the museum and gardens in 1980. Today, Farmington is carrying out a major preservation project intended to protect the historic home while expanding its role as a community gathering place.
